Local Businesses & Contractors
No ad or business relationship here at all —- Just a quick unsolicited endorsement if you’re needing a refi or purchase. Randy and the whole team at VistaLending gave us phenomenal and quick/easy service on our refi that closed yesterday! I’ve account managed over 100 different mtg broker offices in my past life/career, and I never saw service nearly this good anywhere. Top recommendations for this guy and his team!

Submitted by a Westcreek Neighbor: “We just had a recliner/glider recovered by Alvarez Upholstery (a 3rd generation upholstery company) and the results are incredible! The chair looks brand new and is even in better shape than when I purchased it. Their work is impeccable. Their quote was more than fair and lower than several other upholsterers in town and they did even more than I expected by adding extra padding (at no extra charge, unlike other shops that quoted extra charges for every single thing). From the time I contacted them through the end, they were very responsive (unbelievably quick to reply), friendly, professional, honest, knowledgeable, and reliable. They will pick up/deliver for a charge if you don’t have a way to get the furniture to their shop.”

A Westcreek Neighbor wrote, “We worked with True Protection. The contact was John Jarvis 512-940-9774. They were extremely professional, well priced, and very easy to work with!” ”If you are thinking of installing a security system I would highly recommend this company!”
The City of Austin does have an ordinance about unrestrained dogs.
§ 3-4-1 UNRESTRAINED DOG PROHIBITED.
(A) Except as provided in Section 3-4-4 (Public Areas Where Restraint of a Dog is Not Required), an owner or handler of a dog shall keep the dog under restraint.
(B) A person holding a dog on a leash or lead shall keep the dog under control at all times.
- If the dog is loose, call 311
- If the dog is loose and is acting aggressive, call 311
- If the dog is loose and close to a school/area with children, call 311 (and definitely mention that)
- If the dog is loose and currently attacking another dog or person, call 911
Animal Control Services respond (come out) to loose dog calls Mon-Fri, 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Sat/Sun 7 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on city holidays. If issues outside of these hours, call 311.
If you have had issues with an owner who habitually lets their dog out (aggressive dog or not), call 311 and report the issue and the owner’s address. Obviously, we want to talk to the neighbor first to solve but if no luck, then call 311. The Animal Control Office will then investigate the situation and discuss with the neighbor. If the dog is out, owner can be cited and dog impounded where owner has to pay to get dog back.

We usually bring our dog to The Happy Mailman (http://www.happymailmandogs.com/). They are really great there and definitely love what they are doing. -Resident
We’ve also been taking our dog to Happy Mailman for almost five years The people there really love dogs. There is someone on site overnight (not in the dog building, but with a walkie talkie and in the next building), which makes all the difference for us as owners of an anxiety-prone dog. -Resident
Howl and Woof. They’ve been around for a couple of years but have many years of extensive dog training/boarding/etc. Check out Yelp for the reviews. http://www.howlnwoof.com/ -Resident

Oak Hill Plumbing
Robert runs a one-person shop. Sometimes with a helper. His wife normally takes phone calls. He’s very fair, charged us half price his normal minimum service call fee last time because he solved the problem quickly.
