Neighbors Help Needed for Lost Jacket

From Westcreek neighbor Marily Cary:

My husband has lost his black nylon REI jacket with gloves in the inside pockets.  He believes he may have dropped it early this morning in the driveway or on the street on his way to the car.  It could very easily have been picked up by someone walking to school or the store or gym, not knowing who it belonged to.

If anyone has found his jacket, he would greatly appreciate having it returned…….since it’s so cold and he works outside.  Just give us a call and we’ll be glad to pick it up.

Thank you!

Neighborhood Magazine Swap

Almost two years ago a few Westcreek residents started a magazine swap. Nothing formal or scheduled, when you’re ready to pass on the periodicals you take them to someone who hasn’t marked they’ve seen them yet. Since the magazine swap’s inception more people have moved into the neighborhood or those who might not have been interested before are now. Thinking perhaps others might want to join the exchange it’s time to open up the loop again.

If you’d like to be a part of the WNA Magazine Swap you can contact Christie Gaderson or Elaine Pozos to get on the rotation.

WNA Annual Meeting This Wednesday

Our annual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan 19th, 7pm at the Will Hampton Library on Convict Hill Drive.  Come find out what your Westcreek Board has been up to in 2010 and plans for 2011.  Speaking at our meeting will be Annick Beaudet and Chad Crager from the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Connectivity Program.  Annnick and Chad will update us on the City’s plan to make improvements to the greenbelt area at the end of Brush Country, which some have affectionately labeled as the “Westcreek Pocket Park”.  Improvements include a “safe route” to schools and replacing ugly barricades at the end of Brush Country and Westcreek Drive.  Other agenda items include nominations for open board positions and elections.

Westcreek is in desperate need of a newsletter Editor since our long time Editor has decided to step down.  Make your New Year’s resolution “Doing Something for Your Community”.  Start by attending our annual meeting and meet our board members.  We need your support.  See you there!

President, WNA Executive Committee

Wildlife Austin Update

Wildlife Austin Update
The results of the 2010 Neighborhood Habitat Challenge are in! Westcreek tied for fourth place, which
is pretty impressive considering this was our first year to participate. We had a total of seven habitats
certified through the National Wildlife Federation. Bouldin Creek was the winner of the neighborhood
challenge with 14 certified habitats. For more information on the winning neighborhoods and the
projects that they completed (including some great photos), visit
http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/parks/wildlifehabitatchallenge.htm
Meanwhile, the butterfly garden at Patton now features stepping stones decorated by the girl scouts. A
certified wildlife habitat sign will soon be installed. Be sure to visit the garden this Spring!

Pet Cat Shot with Pellet Gun in Westcreek

On Monday, January 3, near the corner of Jay’s Lane and Porsche Lane sometime between noon and 3:00 pm a cat was shot in the leg with a pellet gun.  This is a family pet and he required surgery to remove the pellet and clean the wound. The good people at Travis Country Veterinary Hospital (fabulous, by the way!) were able to save the pellet for whatever evidentiary use it may provide.

If you see anyone shooting a weapon in the neighborhood please report the incident.  It’s important to have some record on file in case a pattern develops or something more serious happens in the future. If you know anything about the incident last Monday please call 311 and refer to report number 115001980.

December 2010 Yard of the Month Winner

Congratulations to Mark and Patricia Webster of 4519 Langtry Lane, winners of the December Yard of the Month for Holiday Lighting! Be sure to drive by to see this beautiful light display! We loved the “dripping ice cycles” The Websters received a $50 gift certificate from Emerald Gardens and a $25 gift certificate from P.Terry’s Hamburgers.
Neighbors on Langtry join the Websters with dazzeling displays of lights in many of the yards, thus earning the “Best Street” of lights in WNA!

While you are on Langtry, take a minute to drive Yellow Rose Trail to Sanderson Ave, where last year’s YOM winner, Heather Huffman, has once again created a beautiful lighting display!

Thanks to the members of the Neighborhood Enhancement Committee for their work this year in naming YOM’s!
