Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

May 17, 2005


Executive Committee members present: Jan Boswell, Karen Gregory, Ben Coughran, Barry Kalda, Bob Shrader, Alicia Ortiz


1. Minutes were approved.


2. Treasurer’s Report. 187 members have paid dues for 2005. Cash available is $11,534.41.


3. OHAN Report. AMD’s move was the subject of most of the meeting. Walmart’s idea to turn their existing Walmart at Mopac and Hwy. 290 into a Super Walmart was discussed.


4. Oak Wilt in Neighborhood? No record of discussing this topic.


5. Traffic problems on Summerset between Brush Country and Hill Forest. (1) Pressure the City to lower the speed limit on Summerset, (2) Bob will send ideas to WNA’s Yahoo group to generate discussion, (3) Ben will check with the Travis County Constable’s office to see if they will run radar on this stretch, (4) It was recalled that developer William Chaffee had originally agreed with Kim Sherman that he would work with the City, looking for traffic calming solutions.


6. National Night Out scheduled for August 2, 2005. It was agreed that it is just too hot in August. WNA will not sponsor NNO this year. It was discussed that an “Anti Crime Spring Fling” be held next spring instead. Ben will look into using the empty lot on Westcreek Drive. He will also check to see how much it is selling for. WNA not sponsoring NNO needs to be a blurb in the newsletter.


7. Reservations at Dick Nichols Park for WNA’s annual picnic. Reservations have been made at the cost of $60.


8. Barbara Huffman’s suggestion of WNA hiring a fence contractor. Barbara Huffman has agreed to chair this committee to work a deal for one fence contractor to replace fences in WNA at a discount.


9. Landscaping of WNA sign update. The plants look good. Clara Olsen will be reimbursed for the plants.


10. June 25 Garage Sale. WNA will buy a bigger ad in the Austin American Statesman for Friday and Saturday. We will also take out an ad in the Oak Hill Gazette for the week of 6/20.


11. Lou Williams’ gift. We will get him something for Christmas. Maybe a basket of various items.


12. June Newsletter assignments. (1) Recipes - Karen, (2) Tip of the Month - Karen, (3) Bumbling Ben and mailbox - Ben, (4) Pictures and Stories of Garage Sale - Ben and Karen, (5) Quarterly meeting pictures - Ben and Karen.


13. Quarterly meeting speakers for June 13 meeting. (1) Peter Freeman - Travis County Emergency Preparedness, (2) Paula Middleton - Master Gardener.


Miscellaneous - (1)Briefly discussed the feasibility of turning WNA into a Homeowners Association. It was agreed that we would need to talk to a lawyer. (2) Bob will see about getting a Walmart representative to our WNA Quarterly meeting in September. (3) Election results - WNA had a poor turn-out, percentage-wise.
