Joe and Erin Byrne at 6206 Honey Dew Court are the latest winners for the Yard of the Month, the last of the summer season! The honor is well deserved as their yard is a blaze of color right now with the bright Lantana and Yellow Bells at the front corner of their corner lot. In the same corner bed is dormant Yucca that was in full bloom all summer in the heat. Several Crepe Myrtles were also quite beautiful during the summer, though now going to seed. Joe loves to garden and have projects underway and shortly after moving in two and one half years ago, he put in the slate grey rock pathway around the front bed that is showy with the lovely cornflower blue Plumbago.
Fall chrysanthemums brighten yet another bed in the front yard. Pretty ceramic tiles with the house number are proudly placed in a bed at the end of the driveway. The couple invited me into the back yard as well and I was pleased to see Zoysia grass there that they had planted to amend the “mud pit” that had developed due to poor drainage. A conversation area and fire pit patio area in the shade of a live oak tree enhances the large back yard. Additionally, they love to grow their own vegetables and have fenced that area in to keep their two sweet dogs out of the garden.
Congratulations to Joe and Erin! They were pleased to get the gift certificates from Emerald Gardens, which Joe says he visits monthly, and Klingemann’s Car Center for an oil change.
PLEASE NOTE: YOM will again be awarded in December for the best Holiday Lighting Display in the yard. Tentatively, judging for the December YOM will take place Dec 15 to 18th with the award being given on Dec. 20.
