BRUSH COUNTRY TRAILHEAD LANDSCAPING PROJECT!

BRUSH COUNTRY TRAILHEAD LANDSCAPING PROJECT!

We’ve partnered with Austin Texas Xeriscapes (ATX) to improve the “devil strip”. Here is the completed xeriscaping project. ATX has landscaped several yards in the neighborhood, including doing drainage improvements, and you’ve likely noticed the dog poop bag station he installed for a Summerset neighbor. John w/ ATX Xeriscaping is doing this pro-bono project for our neighborhood and will be providing a dog poop station near the trailhead so dog walkers will be encouraged to scoop the poop. Just remember when you use the complimentary poop bags, that you take them with you and dispose of them in a trashcan at home.

Westcreek Greenway – Final Design Proposal for Neighborhood Partnering Program

Westcreek Greenway – Final Design Proposal for Neighborhood Partnering Program

The WNA has applied for a Neighborhood Partnering Program cost-share grant to help improve the nature and trail area (both beautification and safety improvements) behind Summerset Trail and Cana Cove. Our efforts will include Small Middle School’s Green Tech Program students.

Here are our final design proposals.  We hope to hear if we are awarded by late this year (2016) and if we get the award, we can begin the project in early 2017.

July/August YOM

The July/August YOM was awarded to Brian & Courtney Heinz at 6310 Fair Valley Trail. At the peak of our summer heat, this yard was and is still attractive with its heat-tolerant plants and an inexpensive, but very effective, drip irrigation system that provides moisture every 6 days! After moving into the Fair Valley home a little over a year ago, Brian went to work removing the existing landscape, laying flagstone in crushed granite, creating a large patio in front of the house as well as two walkways from the sidewalk to house. They are looking for the right fire pit to add to the patio soon! Brian & Courtney wanted to create a low-maintenance yard as they stay busy with their two boys: Gavin, a 6th grader, and Greyson, a 4th grader. Shrubs in the yard include Sage, Japanese Yew, and Yucca. Other heat tolerant plants include Prickly Pear spineless cactus, Agave, Bulbine and more.

The family received gift cards totaling $120 from our four generous sponsors: Leaf Landscape, Klingemann’s Auto Care, Flores Mexican Food Restaurant and D’Lites Ice Cream. Westcreek appreciates the support from these businesses in our neighborhood!
