2018 Westcreek Annual Meeting – January 20

The Westcreek Neighborhood Association annual meeting is coming up! Join us on Saturday, January 20 at 2:00 PM.  The meeting will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church at 5226 William Cannon Drive (parking lot entrance from McCarty Lane) in the children’s building at the back. Pizza and other edibles will be provided and we hope the afternoon schedule works great for all our families.

The program will include a presentation by our Austin Police neighborhood representative, a short discussion of CodeNext, as well as a presentation of our Association’s highlights from 2017 and plans for the new year. We will hold elections for the WNA Executive Committee and we are hoping for a new volunteer to fill an open position. There are eight positions on the executive committee, each serving for two years. If you are interested, please contact me or any of the other current board members.

December 2017 Yard of the Month

Congratulations go out to the Sanders family at 6529 Fair Valley Trail for their holiday lights this month!  Richie & his wife Deborah have lived in Westcreek for fourteen years and regularly join WNA as they value the services of the organization. Their daughter Brianna is responsible for hanging the rooftop lights which was formerly her brother Brandon’s job but he is away at college so the job fell to her!  Richie is behind the rest of the decor & lighting which is synchronized to music. WNA appreciates the support of the Sanders family & thanks them for their lovely light display! They were rewarded with gift certificates from our YOM sponsors totaling $120! We thank Leaf Landscape, Klingemann Auto, Flores Mexican Restaurant, & D’Lites Ice Cream for their YOM sponsorship!

BRUSH COUNTRY TRAILHEAD LANDSCAPING PROJECT!

We’ve partnered with Austin Texas Xeriscapes (ATX) to improve the “devil strip”.  Here is the completed xeriscaping project.  ATX has landscaped several yards in the neighborhood, including doing drainage improvements, and you’ve likely noticed the dog poop bag station he installed for a Summerset neighbor. John w/ ATX Xeriscaping is doing this pro-bono project for our neighborhood and will be providing a dog poop station near the trailhead so dog walkers will be encouraged to scoop the poop. Just remember  when you use the complimentary poop bags, that you take them with you and dispose of them in a trashcan at home.

GREAT NEWS! OUR NPP APPLICATION WAS APPROVED!

Westcreek Greenway – Neighborhood Partnering Program IMG_1829

We’ve just learned that our Neighborhood Partnering Program cost-share grant application has been approved!  This project will improve the nature and trail area (both beautification and safety improvements) behind Summerset Trail and Cana Cove. Our efforts will include Small Middle School’s Green Tech Program students.

We’ve got lots of great plans over the next couple of years for the Westcreek Greenway. Keep tuned for upcoming meetings and volunteer opportunities. We have partnered with Small MS Green Tech Program to be involved with this!  More information to come.

About Westcreek Neighborhood

The Westcreek Neighborhood  encompasses the area bounded by Old Fredericksburg Road on the north, Westcreek Drive and Yellow Rose Trail on the east, William Cannon Drive on the south, and Fair Valley Trail, Steer Trail and Honey Dew Terrace on the west.

Our neighborhood, which was first developed in the late 70s and early 80s, has around 800 homes within its boundaries. We have very easy access to Hwy. 290 and Mopac, and are within walking distance to a wide variety of outdoor activities, restaurants and shopping.

Westcreek is located in East Oak Hill.  In 2008, the Austin City Council approved the Oak Hill Neighborhood Plan, which was created using a multi-year community input process involving city staff and local community leaders and neighbors.

The Westcreek Trailhead in the first spring after planting. New curbs, drainage lanes and sidewalks were put in with city funding at the request of the Westcreek Board of Directors. Decorative boulders and plants were added by neighborhood volunteers.

Westcreek Trailhead – springtime native plants bloom in what used to be a dead-end eyesore at the end of Brush Country. Your Association Officers made this happen in conjunction with the City of Austin.
